I'm officially done with winter, but it doesn't really help. February is still winter in Finland, but I love how the sun shines promisingly and how, when you hear the first birds sing, you know that the darkest time of the year is over and done with!
The combined joy and frustration made me come up with this little series of mini art quilts, Destination spring.
I had a cherished old linen teatowel from 1966 that I brought home from Brocki (fleamarket) in Zürich, that was in such poorly condition that I decided to sacrify it for this project. Therefore the German spelling of the months. Don't you just love the handprinted numbers? That shade of teal is perfect, as I hope you can see, I'm sure the pictures don't fully do it justice :)
Someone asked if I'm going to make calendar quilts for the whole year. I am not sure, I felt an urge to make this countdown to Spring. It remains to be seen how it feels in May when it's too cold and Summer never seem to arrive, I might have to make a few Summer quilts to lure Summer to show its pretty face!
It was very inspiring to make mini art quilts again, it's been years! I enjoyed working with all the details and combining different techniques. Sometimes you just have to take a break from all the necessities and create something for the fun of it!
The quilts are all available in my shop, in the product description I tell a bit more about each quilt!
Thanks for stopping by!
